(Call for Abstracts) Migration-Related Research

Are you a graduate student with a journal manuscript, conference paper, dissertation chapter, or report that could benefit from feedback? Are you interested in learning more about the publication process?

The Pathways to Prosperity Partnership’s (P2P) Standing Committee for Student Engagement (http://p2pcanada.ca/) and the Student Concerns Subcommittee of the Canadian Sociological Association invite graduate students from all disciplines to participate in a half-day workshop during the 85th meeting of the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences in Calgary, AB. This workshop will provide a select group of graduate students with the opportunity to receive oral and written feedback on an unpublished piece of migration-related research from an expert in the field.

The workshop will allocate each graduate student 30 minutes, including time to present a brief description of their work (10 minutes), receive oral feedback from a faculty member working in the area (10 minutes), and open discussion on their paper (10 minutes).

Graduate students with migration-related research interests who would like to learn more about writing and review processes are also invited to attend the workshop and participate in providing feedback to their peers.

We invite abstracts of original research on any aspect of migration, settlement, and integration in Canada, submitted by the deadline of March 4, 2016. The student should be the sole or lead author. Notification concerning the acceptance of abstracts will be provided by March 14, 2016. Confirmation of attendance will be requested prior to March 21, 2016. All those who have confirmed their attendance will be required to send their final paper by May 2, 2016. The final papers will be sent to a faculty member working in the same area to provide constructive feedback. The final papers will also be distributed to fellow participants at the workshop.

Workshop attendees are required to register for Congress and are responsible for arranging Congress registration, accommodation and travel. There will be up to $800 per presenter available to cover travel expenses based on need.

Submission instructions:

• Abstracts should be no more than 250 words.
• Specify the format of your submission (e.g., journal manuscript, conference paper, dissertation chapter) and the expected length of your final paper.
• Include your full name, position, affiliated university, and contact information.
• Submission in English and French will be accepted
• Abstracts should be single-spaced, in .doc or .pdf format, and sent electronically to scse@p2pcanada.ca by March 4, 2016.

Atelier de rédaction pour les recherches portant sur l’immigration

Vous êtes étudiant universitaire aux cycles supérieurs? Vous aimeriez recevoir l’avis d’un expert ou d’un collègue dans votre domaine sur un article, un rapport de recherche ou un chapitre de votre thèse? Vous souhaitez en apprendre davantage sur le processus de publication?

Le comité permanent sur l’engagement des étudiants du Réseau national Voies vers la Prospérité (VVP) (http://voiesversprosperite.ca)et la Société canadienne de sociologie (SCS) vous invite à participer à un atelier de rédaction d’une demi-journée au 85e Congrès des sciences humaines et sociales à Calgary, en Alberta.Cet atelier permettra à un nombre restreint d’étudiants de bénéficier d’une rétroaction verbale et écrite de la part d’un expert dans le domaine de l’immigration sur un manuscrit encore non publié découlant de vos recherches universitaires liées à ce champ de recherche.

Lors de l’atelier, chaque étudiant disposera de 30 minutes qui seront réparties comme suit : brève présentation de sa recherche et du manuscrit (10 minutes); rétroaction verbale de part d’un expert dans le domaine (10 minutes); discussion ouverte sur le manuscrit (10 minutes).

Les étudiants qui ont des intérêts de recherche reliés à l’immigration et qui voudraient simplement en savoir plus sur le processus de rédaction et de révision des manuscrits sont aussi invités à participer à l’atelier et à fournir une rétroaction à leurs pairs.

Vous êtes donc invités à soumettre le résumé d’un manuscrit à caractère scientifique portant sur différentes questions liées à l’immigration d’ici le 4 mars 2016.L’étudiant qui soumet le résumé doit être le seul auteur ou l’auteur principal.La confirmation de l’acceptation des résumés sera envoyée au plus tard le 14 mars 2016. La confirmation de la participation est attendue avant le 21 mars 2016. Les étudiants qui auront confirmé leur participation devront faire parvenir leur manuscrit avant le 2 mai 2016. Par la suite, les manuscrits seront transmis à un chercheur expert afin d’assurer une rétroaction constructive. Les manuscrits seront également distribués à l’ensemble des participants à l’atelier afin de leur permettre de participer activement aux discussions et d’apporter une contribution constructive.

Les participants à l’atelier sont tenus de payer les frais d’inscription au Congrès. Ils sont responsables de leur inscription, de leur hébergement et de leur transport jusqu’au Congrès. Il y a possibilité d’obtenir un soutien financier pouvant aller jusqu’à 800 $ par participant pour couvrir une partie des dépenses liées à l’hébergement et au transport.

Consignes pour la soumission des résumés :

• Les résumés doivent être d’un maximum de 250 mots.
• Indiquez la nature de votre manuscrit (article, rapport de recherche, chapitre d’un mémoire ou d’une thèse) et le nombre de pages de votre manuscrit final.
• Inscrivez votre nom et prénom, niveau d’étude, département et université d’attache, ainsi que vos coordonnées pour vous contacter (adresse postale et courriel).
• Les résumés soumis en français ou en anglais sont acceptés.
• Les résumés doivent être rédigés en interligne simple, en format .doc ou .pdf, etenvoyés par voie électronique à scse@p2pcanada.ca, au plus tard le 4 mars 2016.
