Sustainable Development Signing of a Partnership Agreement between the IFDD and DREE Ontaro
OTTAWA, JUNE 15, 2017: The partnership agreement signed today in Ottawa between the Institut de la Francophonie pour le Développement durable (IFDD), a subsidiary body of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), and the Réseau de Développement économique et d’employabilité de l’Ontario (RDÉE Ontario) offers new perspectives for Ontario’s Francophone and bilingual economic space.
The mission of the Canada-based Institut de la Francophonie pour le développement durable (IFDD) is to help strengthen national energy, environmental and sustainable development capacity. Every year, 400 public-sector and private-sector executives take part in international training organized by the IFDD. The Institut also facilitates networks of expertise and information on sustainable development, provides member countries of the Francophonie with readily understandable technical documentation in French, and initiates and facilitates partnerships with international and regional cooperation and development institutions. As well, some ten different concrete actions are supported annually in those member countries.
In order to improve Ontario’s competitiveness and fully contribute to its economic prosperity, the Réseau de développement économique et d’employabilité de l’Ontario (RDÉE Ontario) engages in promising and innovative economic sectors, including the green economy and ecotourism, which are vectors of sustainable development for Ontario’s Francophone and bilingual business community. In terms of the green economy, in 2016 RDÉE Ontario linked up with the Eco-West project to reduce greenhouse gases. The purpose of that project is to help municipalities commercialize clean technologies and implement sustainable infrastructure projects. In addition, RDÉE Ontario, which is recognized for its tourism expertise in Ontario, will develop initiatives to promote sustainable tourism, namely by organizing the very first North-American edition of the ECORISMO Canada event, planned for Ottawa in 2018.
