The Opportunity
The Harris Centre Intern is a one-year placement for recent graduates from a Masters or Doctoral program (last two years) with skills and interest in public policy, regional and rural development. The position will be located at the Emera Innovation Centre at Signal Hill Campus, St. John’s. 

Duties
The Intern will be responsible for assisting with a variety of Harris Centre activities including public policy forums and other engagement events, as well as supporting key knowledge mobilization tools such as Vital Signs, Rural Routes Podcasts and Yaffle. Specific duties include writing summary and analysis reports following consultations, conferences and workshops; planning and organizing such events throughout various areas of the Province; research and critical review of current issues as they relate to the Province and the strategic initiatives of the Harris Centre. This is an excellent opportunity to build significant skills in how to communicate critical research to ensure that academic and experiential knowledge is available to help informed decision-making amongst governments, communities, industry, and non-governmental organizations. The position also presents a unique opportunity to work closely with provincial and national networks of researchers, community and industry leaders, government and non-governmental organizations on a wide range of projects.   

The Candidate
The ideal candidate must be a graduate from a Masters or Doctoral program within the last two years and demonstrate an interest in public policy and/or regional development with relevance to Newfoundland and Labrador through either academic or applied work experiences. The ability to develop effective working relationships with community partners is required, as well as excellent communications skills. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in: research and writing for a variety of publication types and audiences (including writing online content); coordinating logistics and promotion for events; monitoring and contributing to social media channels; and strong technology skills (Microsoft Office/Web/Apps). Experience with monitoring and evaluation; web/graphic design, A/V equipment, or production of webcasts is considered an asset. The successful candidate will be expected to occasionally work at events that occur outside regular workday hours with possible travel within Newfoundland and Labrador. 

A writing sample test will be required as part of the interview process.

SALARY                                                   $45,383 – $63,642 per annum (Non-Bargaining)
