Harris Centre Explores ‘Rural Routes’ With Podcast Series
What is rural in the 21st century? That is the central question that shapes the episodes of Rural Routes, a new podcast program and an initiative of Memorial University’s Harris Centre. Rural Routes is gaining international popularity with topics on everything from the impacts of mining on rural communities to the benefits and challenges of parenting in rural regions. Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the planet and is expected to bring weather that is warmer and stormier to our province, with more intense periods of precipitation.
Share your views, ideas, and perspectives on ways that Newfoundland and Labrador can minimize the risks and maximize the opportunities presented by climate change.

In 2015, Newfoundland and Labrador had the most rapidly aging population in the country, which when combined with high rates of youth out-migration, declining birth rates, and an increasing number of people moving from rural parts of the province to more urban centres, means that the province is facing an unprecedented population challenge.
A project commissioned by Memorial University’s Harris Centre aims to clarify how our changing demographics will affect this province, along with offering independent, evidence-based recommendations on how to prepare for the future.
