Position Description

CDI Research Associate – Junior

The Community Development Institute (CDI) at the University of Northern British Columbia seeks a person for the position of Research Associate. This position will be responsible for conducting quantitative and qualitative research for the CDI.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Facilitator and Leaders Lab Facilitator of the CDI, support the work program in Fort St. John including:
 Providing input to research design and methodology.
 Organize logistics for meetings, interviews, focus groups, workshops, symposia, including contact lists, invitations, publicity, room bookings, catering, etc.
 Organize logistics for survey administration, including creating online forms, publicity, survey tables at community events and locations, etc.
 Collecting and organizing quantitative data from publicly available sources (e.g. Statistics Canada, BC Stats, government reports).
 Collecting and organizing qualitative data (e.g. through conducting interviews and focus groups).
 Conducting academic literature reviews.
 Analyzing and comparing data.
 Preparing reports of findings, including text and graphic presentation of the findings (graphs, tables, charts, diagrams).
 Preparing PowerPoint presentations of the findings.
 Co-authoring papers with other researchers.

Qualifications

 Masters degree in a related field or Bachelor’s degree with two years’ experience.
 Experience in community, economic, and regional development.
 Experience with community-based research, including qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
 Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively.
 Excellent written and oral communications skills.
 Resourceful, organized, and self-directed.
 The ability to conduct oneself in a way that enhances the CDI’s public reputation and is consistent with the values of UNBC and the CDI.
 Strong record keeping and organizational skills.
 Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite including, Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Publisher.
